Funeral Procession for fallen Marine Lance Cpl. Jordan S. Bastean
Story by Publisher Ed Emmons
The above photo was taken during the funeral procession of fallen Marine Lance Cpl. Jordan S. Bastean. This is what the American flag should be flown at half staff for, fallen members of the Military, Police, Fire, or any other heroes that have given their lives to protect others. It should not be flown at half staff for CELEBRITIES!, unless they were Veterans.
The loss of singer Whitney Houston last Saturday was a loss for anyone who liked her music. I liked her voice as much as anyone else, what I dont like is special treatment for CELEBRITIES. Houston is not an American Hero. She did not give her life for her Country, in retrospect she took her life. No one who takes their own life is a hero in my opinion. That is the easy way out.
Even if her death was an accident, and not an overdose, which no one knows yet, she was admittedly a person with a major problem with substance abuse. Maybe if she would have tried harder and stayed in the substance abuse centers over the years this tragedy may not have happened.
I get sick and tired of so called CELEBRITIES being praised after their deaths for what they contributed to society! Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey has ordered American Flags at half Staff in New Jersey, Houston's home State. Sorry Governor you made a bad call on this one. This privilege should be reserved for real hero's. Whitney Houston was not a hero. Unfortunately she was a role model to many people, but why? Just because you attain CELEBRITY status, does not automatically make someone a hero, or someone to look up to. Many people say she was just a drug addict, while others say she was an American icon.
In my opinion CELEBRITIES in this Country and given too much status! What makes them any better than any other American. Nothing! The same goes for sports figures, etc. They make millions of dollars to do what they enjoy doing, and they make that money because people are willing to pay enormous amounts of money to see them in concert, on a baseball field, or racing a car.
I love politics so I watch of CNN news, but the coverage that CNN gave to the death of Whitney Houston was ridiculous! They covered her death like she was the President! Come on, lets start giving credit where its due! I have never seen CNN cover even one funeral of a fallen soldier! They report the deaths, but thats as far as they will go. The spectacle over her death and the coverage afterwards make me sick. The same thing happened when Michael Jackson died! Its time that Americans start treating these people like everyone else, and NOT hold them to any higher standard! Politicians are the worst. Why should a CELEBRITY be invited to the White House, when there are plenty of regular Americans, Im one of them, who would love to go to the White House!
Give me a break!

You are right Ed. The less time spent praising these types the less young people will be tempted to imulate the bad examples.
ReplyDeleteAs a word of advice, I don't think anyone can get a true understanding of the real world in any catagory by wathing CNN. Like MSNBC they spin everything to be pro socialist and nanny state.
ED: I agree with you about the flags at half staff-- EXCEPT they can be overdone for military men. Bastean of Pekin is a prime example. It was embarrassing to see the excess. The U.S. is, like Israel, brutal in attacking other countries. Soldiers who die deserve our apologies for having sent them into harm's way. But they are NOT heroes. They are immature, and misused by the people they mistakenly try to protect. Giving them such attention causes the gullible to feel they were protecting us.
ReplyDeleteGeorge H. Beres
Ed you are so right about this.
ReplyDeleteEd you can bet that George H. Beres (above post) is a big CNN viewer. I wonder why he and his communist types don't move out of the country they hate? Why do they continue to stay and pay taxes that support views they hate? Could it be that they are cowards and don't want to live in places that practice what communist George and his types preach? George is a three dollar bill, a phony.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you too. But even flying them at half mast for incidents such as happened in Aurora, CO, is overdone. Was the shooting a tragedy? Absolutely! Was it half mast worthy? No, sorry. If we flew at half mast for every murder that took place, we'd never fly full height again. It's horrific, but not military.
